The Secrets For Crappie Fishing On Lake Scugog

If you don’t mind the cold weather, then crappie fishing on Lake Scugog is great during the winter. It’s difficult for them to find food when it’s cold and the lake is covered with ice so, when you go ice fishing and offer them an easy meal they tend to go a little crazy.

The best time to go ice fishing is in the early morning and late evening hours. Minnows, jigs and spoons all work well during this time of year. Keep in mind that they will move slower when it’s cold so don’t get impatient.

Basic Crappie Fishing Tips

The crappie is not a hard species to catch but they can be finicky at times. This means they can be very picky about the baits they choose to take, for this reason you never know for sure which ones will work the best. That’s why so many anglers choose to take a variety of jigs and other lures with them when they go crappie fishing. This way, if they are being picky you can switch around until you find something they’re in the mood for.

Still, they usually respond very well to minnows and worms most anytime so it’s a good idea to use these whenever possible.

The crappie has a soft mouth that will tear very easily so you have to be careful when sitting the hook. If you pull too hard it will rip right through. Not only will this make you lose your catch but it damages the fish and this is never a good thing. Be careful and try not to jerk when you feel him take the bait.

Keep in mind that even though the crappie is a small species they can still put up an incredible fight. Be prepared for this so they don’t catch you by surprise. Fishing for crappies can be relaxing and very enjoyable. Since this species is an easy fish to catch it’s the perfect choice for the beginner and makes teaching children to fish easy. It’s a sport that is great for the whole family.

Have fun and enjoy all your Lake Scugog crappie fishing trips.
