Any advice for crappie fishing on Norris Lake?
If you are going to fish Norris Lake, you should concentrate fishing by the upper part of the lake as this seems to be where the crappie are biting. This would be the area above Bridge 33. The lower half seems to have less activity. You can catch crappie by the Clinch side and by the Powell side. However, the best time to fish Norris Lake for crappies is between April and May near the attractors. You should use minnows, plastic grubs and smaller crankbaits. If you fish the downed tree areas and the brush piles, you will find some crappie. The lake was lacking in crappies for a while until the stocking and rejuvenating of the area around the lake finally provided spawning grounds. There is a lot of man made water structures and the DNR monitors the crape population. You can still enjoy a good day of crappie fishing. You do have to follow the regulations for crappie fishing. I will not quote them because they could change from season to season. Check with the DNR or at the fishing license station to see what the size limits are and the daily limit. I would suggest talking to some of the locals to find out what areas they are having some luck with then fish those areas. The bait will always be something live for the most part. Just ask around and see which bait is working the best that day. Everything changes so much on Norris Lake.
