Best time to fish

What s the best time to go white crappie fishing

The best time to go fishing for White Crappie is the period of time starting about two hours before sunset until one hour after sunset. This is the prime time to fish for a couple reasons. Crappie’s eyes are very sensitive to light. In the middle of the day they often head for the deepest parts of a lake and suspend in the cooler water at depths that will keep the sunlight away from their eyes. As sunset approaches they move into water that is shallow where they can feed. Crappie feed on a variety of different things. As sunset approaches the food chain develops. There will be many bugs flying about; many of them will inadvertently fall into the water. These bugs will in turn attract many small fish looking to make a meal from mosquitoes and many other very small insects. The White Crappie will in turn feed off both the larger bugs entering the water and the small fish that are eating the bugs. Unfortunately for the Crappie they must also be aware of large Bass and Northern Pike that often eat them, the food chain is often very cruel. When fishing at this time you need to be very quiet. The worst noise you can make is when you drop something in the boat or even step your foot down two hard while in the boat. Fish have great sonar capacity and will recognize this immediately. The Crappie is especially wary in this regard. It is best to drift your boat into a fishing area rather than using a motor for this reason.
