crappie sniper.

I’ve heard the term “shooting” before when it comes to fishing. What does that mean?

Remember fishing is hunting and just as if you were hunting duck, deer, turkey or pheasant you must make a good shot.  In fishing the term still refers to a good shot, just in this case your gun is a little different.  Your ammunition is the bait and hook and your gun is your rod and skilled wrist.  Anyone can fling a line out onto open waters and we call that by many names but for this discussion we will call it casting.

We all know that fish will hide in almost any cover and just wait for a passing bite.  So the first task to shooting is finding where they are hiding.  Look in the weeds, dock supports, partially submerged trees or sunken crappie beds for these tasty morsels.  Now it gets really fun.  Imagine yourself dressed in the perfect camouflage, it blends in perfectly with the light blue background and you have mastered the art of moving without any noise and you have found your target.  You crouch down low, you see your target and even your finger begins to shake, ever so slightly.  You calm yourself and suddenly you make the call, it’s time to shoot.  Your wrist twists and your finger makes the slight adjustment to release the trigger and your ammunition flies towards its target.  With a gentle, almost unheard splash your bullet lands between the branches of the tree that has dozens of jigs and lines dangling from it only adding shelter.  Holding your breath you wait to see if your shot pays off…

Perfect shot.
