Any new crappie fishing tips to share with me?

Crappie fishing can be a somewhat complicated experience if you wish to maximize your output. There are many variables to consider. The area of the country you are fishing, time of day, season of the year and other fish present in the body of water all have an impact on the methods one uses when fishing for this species. I will discuss several of these points. The best time to fish for Crappie is during periods of low light. Crappies have large eyes that are very sensitive to light. They prefer to remain active only in periods of low light. The best time to fish for this species in two hours before sunset to one hour after the sun has gone down. Look for wood if you want to catch large numbers of crappie. Standing trees in the water with numerous branches offer the best possible cover for Crappies. If you are fishing a lake that has large numbers of predatory fish it is even more imperative that you find areas of cover such as trees. If standing trees are not available fallen timber or even man made structures in the water will also provide excellent opportunities to fish for Crappie. When jig fishing I have found that the two best colors to use are pink and chartreuse. When the water is murky I will switch to the florescent shades of these colors to make my offering more visible. For live bait fishermen nothing beats a small lively minnow. There is a good reason bait store refer to these as “Crappie minnows”.
