Detroit Panfish

I live in the Macomb County area and would like to know where are the good crappie and panfish spots. I’m willing to travel 10-80 miles.I used to go to kent lake in milford a long time ago near the Dam, but it’s been so long ago i have forgotten how to get there from the Detroit area. Can you please help a newly retired man who loves to fish?

There are many lakes near you that contain crappie and panfish. Within 30 miles of Detroit, you have Lakes Tacoma, Muskoday, and Okanoka, Blue Heron Lagoon, Quarry lake, Cranbrook Lake, Gilbert Lake, Meadow Lake, Wing Lake, Vhay Lake, Chalmers Lake, Kirkwood Lake, Minnow Lake, Mirror Lake, Sondon Lake, Orange Lake, Walnut Lake, Island Lake, Haines Lake, Lower Long Lake, Lake St. Clair, Simpson Lake, Evans Lake, Wabeek Lake, Harris Lake, Mud Lake, Forest Lake, Curtis Lake, Hadsells Pond, Bloomfield Lake, Moon Lake, Upper Long Lake, Turtle Lake, Morris Lake, Pine Lake, Spring Lake, Orchard Lake, Square Lake, Hammond Lake, Crystal Lake, Orchard Lake, Woodpecker Lake, Chestnut Lake, Dollar Lake, Pleasant Lake, Upper Straits Lake, Miller Lake, Dow Lake, and Sylvan Lake.

All of these lakes contain crappie and panfish, and none are more than an hours drive from the Detroit area.

The best methods for crappie are to rig a small minnow under a bobber, or use small jigs. For panfish, nothing beats a worm.

Happy fishing.
