Do lipless crank baits work on Crappie?

Category: Crappie Bait

I’ve used lipless crank baits when bass fishing but have been told to try them on Crappies as well. Are there certain ones that would be more effective than others?

While minnows and jigs are still the most popular baits and lures for Crappie fishermen, lipless crankbaits do offer more versatility.  Crappie fishermen are finding that they can use these tiny lures in virtually all situations.  They work well in either clear or murky water, are effective in just about any type of cover and can be used year round.  The lipless crankbait eliminates the need to change lures when situations change and are easy to use for even the beginner.  When choosing a lipless crankbait for Crappie fishing, the smaller models work best.  A few you may want to experiment with include; Norman Lures’ 1/10 ounce Tiny N Ticer and/or Rapala’s 3/16 ounce Rattlin’ Rap.  The shimmy of the lipless crankbait combined with the rattle produced by the brass, steel or lead shot pellets quickly attract even the most elusive Crappie.  This lure is also a perfect tool when you’re attempting to locate the Crappie.  It’s extremely easy to cast farther and retrieve quicker than traditional lures and bait.  It also works well to cast beyond cover and with a vertical jigging technique.
