Dan, do you have any advice for crappie fishing on Ochoco Lake? I can’t catch a thing!
The only advice I can give is about the water temperature and the idea location. There are crappies in Ochoco Lake, but sometimes it is hard to find the right location. It can be very frustrating when you spend the entire day fishing only to leave empty handed. The waters are usually warm and the crappies are in the shallow waters by the brush and downed trees. The shoreline fishing is pretty good in the lake, but you will want to make sure you are in the right area. The crappies will feed on minnows and other baitfish that inhabit the lake. If you are fishing when the water temperatures are still to cold for the crappie, you are going to need a boat to get to the depths of about fifteen feet. Look for areas around drop offs and underwater structures. A map of Ochoco Lake will help you find the areas that you want to fish. Trolling has worked well for some in the deeper waters. You do have use different presentations when you are out on the lake. The lake has had some good crappie fishing over the years, but most anglers will seek out other lakes to get a good days catch. You will have to talk with some locals or the local bait shop to see what the lake is producing on the day you plan to fish. Some days are great and others are not worth getting out of bed for because you will not have a bite.
