Fishing researcher, Dan Eggertsen, answers a variety of questions concerning how you can catch crappie quickly and easily.

Do you need a guide and how to choose.

Category: Uncategorized

Do you recommend using a guide if I’m a beginner? How do I pick the right one?

Crappie fishing is an interesting sport and there are about as many reasons for fishing as there are people.  To decide if you want to hire a crappie guide you should ask yourself an important question.

Why are you fishing?  If you are fishing for simple relaxation maybe a guide is not for you.  If you are fishing for the sport or even the food a guide might be for you.  Most of the time a guide will know the waters way better than you but if you are considering a guide on a body of water you are familiar with you might want to think twice.  Many guides get their information strictly from local sources so you might contribute if you talk at the bait shop.  On the other hand you might play this to your advantage…

Remember lots of guides operate on public areas and just know the best spots.  They fish these areas every day and know just what was working the last time they were out.  They have become experts in the waters they guide or at least they claim to be.

To find your best guide find one that has been at the job for a long time on the local waters.  Make sure the guide will have the gear you need or find out what you need to bring with you.  Make sure you hire your guide for the right time of year and fish you are looking for and remember that even the best will have bad days.
