Can I have a list of your favorite 1/64 oz. crappie jigs?
When I get the crappie bug, my first choice is always fly fishing gear, but for spinning, I do have my favorites. My first choice for spinning is without a doubt, the plain maraboiu jig, in chartruese, yellow and white colors. In my experience, this is the most productive and versatile jig ever created. You can flip it, jig it, cast it or fish it under a float, either singly or with a double-jig rig. It can do it all. You can fish it deep. You can fish it shallow. You can fish it ugly, or pretty, it doesn’t matter. This jig always produces. Next on my list is the Roadrunner Jig, again in chartruese, yellow and white. This is a fantastic bottom-bumper jig when crappie are deep. It is almost weedless, and the horse- head lets you feel every bump on the bottom to discern the bottom structure. My next favorite is the panfish Assassin bodies, on a 1/64 oz. tube jig. These produce sometimes when nothing else will work. They are made in enough color combinations to be able to match almost any type of baitfish. You can even get them in ‘kits’ with assorted colors, but I avoid these. It’s been my experience that you will get a few good colors, and the rest will languish in your tackle box forever. And last, but not least are the standard ‘tube’ jigs that look like little squid, and come in every color combination you can imagine. No tzckle box should be without a few of each of these types of jigs if you ever plan to fish for crappie. Happy fishing!
