Hello, I have read many article about releasing the male crappie and/or the female. I have yet seen any article on how to tell the difference in sex. If their is a website with pics, I sure haven’t found it yet. Not a joke, please help! kindest regards, Dave

Wow, that is a hard one, but I believe I have found you a picture to look at to see the difference from a male and a female. This of course is coming from another angler Jerry Blake. He posted this picture on a forum because someone had the same question as you did and he provided a picture and the way to look at the picture of the fish. Take a look at http://www.crappie.com/gr8vb3/showthread.php?t=1555. In the middle of the page, look for Jerry’s post with the picture that you can see the difference from the female and the male crappie. He tells you how to read the picture and you can see the difference that he is describing. I looked at some other places as well and have not seen any place with pictures except for this forum. This is very strange that no one has any pictures on the Internet. I have heard many stories of anglers wanting to keep the females after a spawn and ended up with a male. Some have said that the only way to tell the difference is to filet the fish and you will see eggs or a sperm sack. By that time, you are not going to throw the fish back into the water. I will check some other places offline to see if I can find more defining pictures. However, I am not promising anything since there is nothing on the Internet, there may not be anything else offline either.
