Hi-Viz Line: A Good Choice for Crappie

Category: Uncategorized

What is hi-viz line and how does it work?

As you might imagine, Hi-Viz line is just what it sounds like: High Visibility. Hi-Viz is strong, high tenacity, UV resistant, braided Dacron. Want to talk about strong Line? This line is so strong they use it for belted auto tires. However, it’s not overly thick, so you can load a lot of it on your reel. But because conventional nylon line is hard to see in open water, Hi-Viz Line stands out like neon. The most common colors are orange and yellow.

You can also find it in other colors. Not surprisingly, when you are fishing for other fish species that are shyer than crappie, you can match the color of your line to the color of the water. Green with green, blue with blue - you get the picture.

Why use it for crappie fishing? For one thing, visible line does not spoopk crappie. Crappie do not typically slam your lure or bait. As likely as not you have missed more fish than you might think just because you did not feel anything and missed a golden opportunity to set the hook. Nope, he just spit out your offering.

That is why Hi-Viz line is so great for crappie fishing. Even when you do not feel anything you can SEE the line moving back and forth slightly. This gives you time to set the hook.

So next time you head out to the lake to load up on some hefty crappie, load your reel with some Hi-Viz line and see how many more you can take home!
