How do I know where to catch crappie?
First, you have to talk to someone in your area to see what waters have crappies and then find out what the water has for holding crappies if you don’t know already. Even the Internet can tell you if there are crappie waters in your particular area. If you are asking where to catch them in the water, you will look by weed beds, underwater stumps, and rock formations and by sand bars. The fish do stay closer to the shallow waters more so than what other fish do, but your best bet is to fish the shorelines about four to five feet out in the early mornings or late evenings. If you use the right bait and get the right position on the water, you can have a good day of fishing. Crappies are usually abundant in the waters as long as the water is full of food and not heavily over populated. When waters become over populated, more fish die off and the size of the fish is hindered. The fish can only grow to a good size to catch if there are enough food sources. When the food sources are in jeopardy, the size of the fish is stunted. After you find the ideal location to fish, you have to have patient and the fish will come. The ideal time to start looking for the crappies is after the spawn and during the early summer months before the water warms to much. Then again in fall right before winter when the fish move deeper as the water cools.
