How do you get crappie to bite on Lake Fork in Texas - in early November?

Getting crappie to bite is always a good question.  One thing I know for certain is that yelling at the water commanding the fish to bite does not seem to help.  So with that not being an option we have to resort to more technical and realistic methods.  The trick to getting a bite is looking like what the crappie want to eat.  Every fish, crappie included, are creatures of habit you should know when they spawn and when they calm down during cold seasons.  When temperatures are falling, as they would be in the fall months, remember that the crappie are looking for easy meals they are not going to waste energy chasing after bait but they are looking for a good meal that is easy and filling.

Present a bait, fish or worm, that looks alive but remember the chase is not what the crappie is looking for at this moment.  The crappie is going to be looking for a bait that is high in protein and other fats to store energy over the cold times.  Of course in southern states like Texas the waters don’t get all that cold but the fish will still behave like the cold is coming.  Crappie hunt weed lines and ledges where they expect bait fish to be so be sure to put your bait there.  Simple rising and falling motions have worked for me in the past but every day is different sometimes a slow horizontal motion is best.  Don’t alternate to often, pick one motion profile and give it some time before changing to another.
