How long is a three-pound crappie?

How long is a three pound crappie?

There is no right answer for this question. I can give you some facts about weight and length of crappies that have been caught. One crappie was three pounds and the length was sixteen inches. Then there was a three and half pound crappie caught that was eighteen inches long. Then again, there was a three pound, fourteen and a half ounce crappie caught that measured nineteen and a quarter inches long. There is no set length for weight of a crappie. I would say that the length of a three-pound crappie could be in the range of sixteen inches to nineteen inches. You could even find a crappie that is smaller in length I suppose. The weight and the length will depend on how the fish eats, how much it has to eat and the size of its environment. You could put a crappie in a pond in your backyard and since it is small, the crappie made get fatter, but the length is stunned because of the pond size. You will find that in the open water, you may not even catch a three-pound crappie. Some anglers will tell you that a three-pound crappie is rare, but I believe it is possible to catch them in waters where the population is high. If you ever catch a three-pound crappie, measure it, see just what the length is, and note it until the next time you catch one. This is the only way to know exactly how each fish is different even if the weight is close.

Caught a 17″ here in chesapeake, VA. When I first hooked it I thought it was a bass, surprised the hell out of me when it turned out to be a crappie. I had never caught one even close to that size around my area. It came from one of a collection of small neighborhood ponds. (several are connected by overflow pipes) Did not have a scale so I was wondering how much you thought it may have weighed? Released him because I thought citation was 18″ (of course I found out later at chesapeake bait and tackle that its 15″ :\
