Can you tell me how to catch crappie?
Crappies are a relatively easy fish to catch, assuming of course they exist in great numbers in the body of water you are fishing. There are a few key concepts to keep in mind when fishing for this species that I will discuss here. It is best time to fish for Crappie in the evening hours. The time period from two hours before sunset to an hour after sunset will provide you best time to fish for this species. Crappies have large eyes that are very sensitive to sun light. You can of course catch them throughout the day, but in periods of low light you will have the most success. Crappies are fish that are very observation of their surroundings and wary of a presentation that does not appear to be natural. This is especially true for large Crappies. Anglers therefore should go very light when choosing gear to use. I suggest using four pound test strength fluorocarbon line. Fluorocarbon line is best due to its invisibility properties when compared to monofilament line. You lose a little bit of strength but this is really not important. If you have any idea at all about how to play a fish you will not lose a crappie due to a break off. Crappies and wood go together like peanut butter and jelly. Look for wood structure while fishing. Standing trees in the water, fallen timber or even man made wooden structure in the water will al hold crappie if they fit with other features the fish prefer.
