What is a bait pistol and how does it work?
A bait pistol is a mythical object that really should be invented. This is a really cool tool that is used for baiting hooks. It is a battery operated device that resembles a battery powered impact driver. This device however is somewhat unique in that it also requires air to operate. It is an all in one tool that will put a mealworm or wax worm onto a single hook of various gauges (see your manual).
This device resembles a paintball gun that might have mated with a roofing nail gun. The container on top of the ‘pistol’ contains the mealworms that will be loaded onto a hook. On the bottom of the pistol is a container that holds jig heads in a reel just like a nail gun.
The trigger is a two step operation. On the first click a jig head is fed up to the “barrel”, at this point you can feed a line through the eye of the jig head or ignore this step and save the prepared jig for later use. If you decide to feed a line through the eye of the jig, be sure to latch it in the line latch just above the trigger or the line may not be tied off correctly.
The second step in the trigger uses small air pressure to prime and load a meal worm onto the waiting hook. As soon as the bait is loaded onto the hook the bait is spun and if a line was fed through the eye it is tied in a perfect fisherman’s knot, every time guaranteed. If the jig hook is not loaded save it for later use with a plastic grub or donate to a local fishing shelter.
