im going fishing this friday and i was wonderind where the white crappies are at in the lake. the conditions are murky water, cloudy day, about 64 degrees farenthit.so could you reply to what part of the lake there at and whats the best bait to use.
The temperature of the air means the water temperature is going to be cooler and the fact that it will be cloudy means no sun to warm the surface water or cast to much light into the water. The water will be murky, so this means you will need to use a lure that is seen in strained waters. I suggest looking for the crappies in shallow waters by the sandy areas of the lake. The crappie will be located near coves, points and flats when the water temperature is so cool. Actually, when the temperature is at 64 degrees it seems the crappies strike more. Figure it this way. The water temperature is the same in the fall and the spring. Wherever you find fall crappie, you should look there for spring crappie. The cooler temperatures drive them to shallow waters. The murky water means you need to use some type of lure that they will see in the strained water. Chartreuse is the best. Something shiny will work well also. The clouds will not affect the outcome here so much because of the water condition. If you would go on a warm day with bright sun, you would look for crappie in deeper waters and near rock formations and humps. Stick to the shallow water and cast or still drop and you should catch some crappie. Weather conditions and water conditions affect crappie fishing a bit, but not as bad as it does other fussy fish that anglers seek.
