I’m going on a trip where I’m going yellow perch fishing. Do I fish them differently than other types of perch?

Yellow perch like crayfish so they are usually found in areas where the crayfish are found. Keep the rod and reel light so you can feel the bite. Other than that, fishing for yellow perch is basically the same. You are going to need some bait which crayfish will do or a night crawler will do just as well. Since you want to catch the larger yellow perch, you want your bait to reflect that. If you are going to use bait that is small, you are going to attract the tiny ones. Use some bait that is large so you catch the perch that makes for a nice meal. Since I am not sure how you fish other perch, this is the advice I would give you about yellow perch. It may be different for you or it may not. I do know that Lake Michigan anglers that fish for perch usually just use a nigh crawler but they also use nets to catch the fish. Keep in mind that when you are fishing the perch, you might even get other species on the line. Yellow perch have been compared to the walleye at times because of its feeding habits. Unfortunately, walleye like to eat the yellow perch. Keep the equipment light and the bait as natural as you can to what the perch like to eat and you will have a great day of fishing. Any time of the day is a good day to find schools of yellow perch.
