I am new to this area. What can you tell me about perch fishing on lake erie?
The first thing I should tell you about perch fishing in Lake Erie is that it is the best fishing around for perch. You do not need any fancy rods and reels or even boats. Perch fishing on the lake is good. If you are fishing from the Ohio side, you can fish the beach area during the spring. It is possible to catch the perch from the break walls during this time. During the summer, the perch usually move farther out to the deeper waters and all you have to do is look for the schools with a fish locator or follow the other anglers out on the water. There are many charter services as well that can take you out on the lake for fishing. You can spend a half a day or the entire day on the lake fishing for perch. The nice thing about the charter services is that they can take you right to the areas that they have had success catching perch. Still, you can rent a charter boat or fish on your own. There are enough perch in Lake Erie for everyone. Most anglers are catching perch with a night crawler. There are some that use lures, but then again, this all depends on how you want to fish. If you live on the Ohio side of Lake Erie, you are going to have some good perch fishing. If you start fishing during the spring months, you can fish right off shore or by the break walls and never need a boat.

This is how I done it when I fished for perch on Lake Erie. This will probably work about anywhere. We put the boat in and go were we thought we had to be, It was usually in October. We would anchor the boat in about 10 to 12 foot of water this was our starting point.. We then put a spreader on our rod put our hooks on about a #6 snelled hook with a leader and a sinker. We would put on our shiner minnows on our hooks open the bale and let it go to the bottom then reel it up 3 turns of the crank handle. We would fish this spot for a half hour. If no bites we would lift the anchor with our lines still out and drift. When you get that bite you need to let the anchor back down as quite as you can. Most time if you catch one others will follow. Hope this works for you as it has for me many times.
