I do not see any posts or questions about crappie fishing in the rivers is it harder to catch them in rivers?
Crappie river fishing is a great way to catch fish. I don’t recall any question about river crappies, but I can tell you that river fishing is just as easy if not more so than open water fishing. With river fishing, you have a much smaller area and the fish hide around the dead wood, weeds and rock structures in the rivers. You can fish for crappies from shore on some of the smaller rivers. I believe that you will find river fishing in almost every state where crappies are found. Besides the spawn, crappies do live and feed in rivers and streams. I would suggest looking at rivers that feed off of larger bodies of water. The crappies will swim upstream to feed, so you can easily cast upstream and allow the bait to flow with the current, which should go by a school of crappies. Where there are baitfish, the crappie are sure to be close. You can wade into swallow rivers to get to the deeper waters or you could use a kayak to get into the deeper waters, but crappies do stay swallow all day long if they have a place to hide and feed. Use some baitfish that you find in the river to bait the crappies. These fish are feeders and seem to go strong for small minnows and even insects. If you are fishing during the spawn, you will find many fish in rivers that otherwise would not be there as well and hungry.
