From everything I know about the particular area, you should be fishing by at the top end of the lake called the Finger Area. This is the best place to be fishing from the banks of Tobesofkee. Since you do not have a boat, you cannot go to the main coves where the crappie fishing is great when you troll. The water you are fishing is in by the coves is only about nine feet deep. The bank area should be as shallow as two feet and there are plenty of brush and dead wood for the crappie to suspend themselves by near the bank. Another thing to keep in mind is that you should go when the summer vacation is over and the boaters are almost done for the summer. The lake is not that big and with all that commotion going on in the water, you are probably experiencing spooked fish. Right before or right after summer, I would try fishing the banks of the Finger Area. Try using a medium sized minnow for bait and cast as far into the middle as you can and slowly bring it in without any jerking. Make a smooth presentation to the crappie. I think you will find the area and the time of the year you go can work much better for you. The bait will get there attention and then you can have some find crappie dinners. Just avoid days when everyone is bank fishing or boat fishing and making commotion in the water.
