Hi Dan, Joe here, just moved to Toledo,Ohio from New Mexico, looking to continue looking for the big slabs..I have boat, looking for a place at Toledos’ end of Lake Erie, Point Place, Toledo Harbor, Maumee River, to catch some Crappies,Thank you for you help, Joe Carter
Lake Erie crappie fishing is good anywhere on the shoreline of the lake. Concentrate on the areas where there are flats and drop offs. The crappies population in Lake Erie is high, but most anglers still head to Sandusky Bay for some great crappie fishing. If you are going to Maumee River, head to the Grand Rapids Dam and fish right below it. Shiners work well in this area with a bobber. That is where the whit bass is. If you want the smallmouth bass, you can fish from Orleans Park to the Grand Rapids Dam with a twister tail or a crankbait. I notice you did not ask about Pleasant Hill Lake or Van Wert Reservoir. These two places are the best for catching crappies. At Pleasant Hill, they are catching crappies in fifteen feet of water with a minnow and a slip bobber. By Van Wert, they are catching crappies in seven feet of water with a slip bobber and a minnow. This area is great right before dusk. Try the north side for the best catches. These two were not on your list to crappie fish, but they are high on an anglers list of places to fish. As for Toledo Harbor and Point Palace, no one has offered any suggestions for this year. I would stay with the Pleasant Hill, Van Wert and the shores of Lake Erie. You will have better luck bagging your limit. All you need is a slip bobber and a minnow it sounds like.
