I need some tactics for catching crappie on Crescent Lake…can you help?

The fishing on Crescent Lake and Dead Lake just down the road is always great. The largest crappie caught recently was a three-pound male. The locals fish this lake with a minnow and a jig with incredible results. They are taking home their limits every day. Whether you fish Crescent or Dead Lake, you can take a boat out for some good fishing. Dead Lake was bought by the county and they put in some boat ramps, which makes it nice to go fishing on the lake again. They even put up a restaurant so you can have a few drinks after a productive day. Crescent Lake fishing is at its finest any time of the year. I have heard of fish being caught in March, February and the summer months as well. I have never heard of anyone coming away from the lake without a catch. They use the vertical drop when they find the zone, but most will use a slow troll near the underwater structures where the baitfish school. I would never rule out looking by the brush and fallen trees that become submerged in the water. This is a prime spot for fishing as well. Catch you minnows in the same water you are going to fish or from the bait shop. They get their minnows from the lake so the crappies bite. Sometimes if you use baitfish from other waters, the crappie will not bite. It appears that the crappies can taste the difference or smell the difference.
