Is there one crappie pole better than others?

When fishing for Crappie is one pole actually better than any other?

When researching the type of pole to use when fishing for Crappie, you’ll often find many brands tout their effectiveness and even go so far as to guarantee a certain number of catches per day.  In reality, however, the type of pole you use will not usually dictate how many Crappie you’ll catch.  The most important factor when fishing for Crappie is being able to locate them.  The only real requirement for a Crappie fishing pole is that it is a lightweight model.  Crappie are not fighters and in many cases, fishermen lose Crappie because they didn’t even know they were on the line.  A lightweight pole such as a cane pole is the least expensive option and simply requires that you drop the bait in the water, however you will need to pull the line and the pole out of the water manually as it does not have a reeling mechanism.  Since the most important factor in Crappie fishing is placement a telescopic pole is also a good bet.  The best length for easy handling is between 10 and 12 feet.   A telescopic pole will provide the best opportunity for placing the bait exactly where you want it.  Although it really won’t provide much line control, a telescopic cane pole is an excellent choice.  For the more experienced fisherman, a fly rod will produce similar results to a cane pole and can also provide an edge on the actual placement of the bait.
