It’s Knot Love

HEY DAN, PLEASE SHOW ME HOW TO TIE A CRAPPIE JIG. WHAT IS THE KNOT NAME AND CAN YOU PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO TIE IT.I WAS TOLD THAT I TIED MY KNOW WRONG.I INSERT THE LINE THROUGH THE EYE OF THE JIG OR HOOK, AND THEN COME THROUGH IT AGAIN. I THEN TWIST THE LINE SEVERAL TIMES AND PUT THE HOOK OR JIG THROUGH THE LOOP ON THE LINE.. I END UP WITH A LOOP ABOUT 4″ lomg and tied on the line. thank you so verry much.

o tie on a jig, the best knot to use it a Trilene knot. This knot is stronger than the line used to tie it. You can find a very good video on how to tie this knot at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=caBp8-xTxm0.

The most popular knot is the Improved Clinch Knot. It has about 80% of the strength of the line. You can see how to tie it at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HY1H4cSppgg.

Tying knots correctly is the single most important skill in fishing. The vast majority of fish are lost because of poorly-tied knots, rather than equipment failure. The next major cause of lost fish is dull hooks, or hooks that have been improperly sharpened.

With the exception of the Trilene knot, all knots weaken the line. Most will weaken the line around 20%, so that a length of 10-pound test line with an improved clinch knot tied in it, will fail at the knot at a pressure of around 8 pounds. Improperly tried knot weaken the line even further, even 50% or more. And, improperly tied knots frequently come untied.

With this in kind, it will greatly improve your fishing success if you practice these knots until you can tie them perfectly.
