I’m told Lake Greenwood (in South Carolina) is an awesome place to crappie fish. Do you think I should spend my time to go there and fish, and if so, do you have any tips?
Lake Greenwood is widely accepted as being one of the best crappie fishing locations in the whole state of South Carolina. It is an 11,400 acre lake, with plenty of public access and local amenities which make it an ideal location for day trips, outings, or even family vacations. April is a good month if you want to go dock fishing, because the spawn begins in March and continues into April, and the structure areas are a good place to find the fish at this time. Whenever the water gets to about 60 degrees, the crappie tend to move in to the coves getting set for the spawn, so in the early spawn seasons, fish the cove and back creek areas. If you spot a deck area with lots of signs like minnow buckets and rod holders, take this as a cue that the fish are present in the structure the dock area provides and follow suit accordingly. If you want to fish upper Lake Greenwood, up above the highway 72 area, try out Mary and Judy’s Landing, Skipper’s Landing, Cane Creek Landing, and Moon’s Landing. Check out the West Side Fishing Access, if you want to fish Lake Greenwood’s bottom, but if you are in a position to fish the top or the bottom, check out Leader’s Fishing Village Landing.
