This is a Wobble Eye Jighead

What is a wobble eye jighead?

The wobble eye jighead is a classic fishing lure. It is rather simple but very effective. One of the kinds of fish that it is most often used for is crappie.

The wobble eye jighead is almost always a one piece metal fishing lure. Think of it as a hook that a round or egg shape has been molded on it extending from the eye to just about half way down the shank of the hook.

The lure has big wobbly eyes (hence the name) bulging out right where you would expect them to be. Sometimes they are simply  painted on but the most effective jigheads have eyes that roll around, creating more movement and hopefully making more attractive to the fish.

Wobble eye jigheads are usually painted bright, vivid colors. Some are even flourscent orange, yellow, or green. This serves two purposes: it creates more excitement, and it makes the lure much more visible in low light conditions or when the water is murky. This is particularly important when you consider the fact that crappie like to feed in areas under overhanging vegetation.

The wobble eye jigheads can be used in any number of different ways; they are extremely versatile. I have seen them catch a mess of fish when they are used trolling, casting, or just jigging.

If you decide to jig with them, you can create a little more exitement and action if you rig the lure with a live minnow on the hook. The minnow will swim along, drawing more attention to the jighead.
