Tunica Crappie

What’s your best advice for crappie fishing in Tunica Mississippi?

Crappie fishing in the waters around Tunica, Mississippi is really not much different than fishing for Crappie anywhere else in the world. There are certain principles to Crappie fishing that when followed will ensure success. First important factor is to keep your equipment as light as possible. A light action rod and reel is the first key points to consider. Perhaps the most important decision to be made is the line selection. Your catch rate is optimized by the use of light line. When Crappie fishing I use four pound test fluorocarbon line. There is really no sound reason to use anything heavier. Your next consideration is where to fish. Crappies are a fish that relates to cover. The specific form of cover Crappies enjoy most is wood. Standing trees and fallen timber both work equally well. The best situation is a series if trees that you can position yourself directly in the middle of. Live bait in combination with a jig works well for Crappie. It is has been my experience that the best two jig colors to use are florescent pink and chartreuse. I like to tip my jigs with some form of live best. A small lively minnow is perhaps the best live bait. Minnows of this size are not called “crappie minnows” without reason. I like to hook it once through the lips to maintain as natural a swimming action to the fish as possible. In the absence of live minnows you can use several different kinds of insects as an alternative. Maggots and wax worms have worked the best for me over the years.
