What crappie fishing gear do you take to Lake Weiss?

My favorite rig for fishing lake wise depends on what time of year I am fishing there. Of course, my all-time favorite is fly fishing. I use a 5 wt rod with WF5F Sharksin fly line, with a 7′ tapered leader and 3x tippet. My best flies are small Clouser Minnows, and small versions of Puglisi-style minnows. I tie all my own flies. Small chartreuse and white Woolly-Buggers are magic at times.

I also use a 12 foot crappie rod to drop jigs in good spots. I use 4-lb Trilene and a 1/16 oz. Chartreuse Marabou jig. Another good rig for Lake Weiss, especially in fall is to rig a jig under a float, about 5 feet deep.

In the pre-spawn, I usually use an ultra-light rod tipped with a 1-1/2″ minnow and a light split shot. I use a Grouper Rig to vertically tightline near heavy cover in 10-15 feet of water, near channel drop-offs, ledges, and sunken timber.
