What are some black crappie predators?
There are several types of black crappie predators. When they are juveniles they will find that they are prey to just about anything. A very large percentage of them don’t live to be more than a few days old for this reason. Birds are also common predators of them when they are young. The Blue Heron seems to be the biggest bird predator. As they start to get larger the Blue Heron will leave them alone. However, that is when the Eagle will find them to be a great meal.
As they get larger though their chance of survival is going to significantly increase. The largemouth bass is a common predator for them as they get older. They are very aggressive and they can move very quickly to get their prey. The channel catfish also are a common predator of the black crappie. They tend to consume anything they can find. Even if they aren’t hungry, they will consume them when they see them coming around.
