Are there certain areas in the United States that are better for Crappie fishing than others?

Although one of the reasons that Crappie fishing is so popular is that you can find them in virtually any lake, river, or stream in the United States, there are obviously certain parts of the country in which Crappies are more abundant.  Typically, Crappie fishing is the best in the southern states due to the weather conditions and overall water temperatures.  Alabama, Kentucky, Tennessee, Oklahoma and Mississippi are home to some of the best Crappie fishing available.  Grenada Lake in Mississippi is considered to be the premier Crappie fishing spot by most of the experts while the Kentucky Lake which sits on the border of Kentucky and Tennessee is also extremely popular.  In Alabama,  Logan Martin and Weiss Lake top the list of destinations for Crappie fishermen while Lake Eufala in Oklahoma is well known for catches weighing 2 pounds or more.  If you’re ice-fishing for Crappies, the Northern States are obviously going to be your best bet.  Minnesota and Canada are two of the most popular.  In Canada, an excellent spot for Crappie fishing is Sabaskong Bay on the Lake of the Woods in Ontario.  In Minnesota, experts say that the best Crappie fishing can be found while the ice is still out and the water remains cold.  The place to be this year, according to the Minnesota experts is Goose Lake in northeast of Cambridge in east/central Minnesota.
