What is the best way to catch crappie on the Santee Cooper?

Every season has a different way to catch the white crappie. In February, you can plan to drift around the mouth of the creeks in depths of about eight to twelve feet of water. Use minnows to fish before the water temperatures rise to 58 degrees, and then the crappie will move to the shallow waters. During the spring months, you can offer medium sized minnows in about two feet to twelve feet of water by the inlets. Towards the end of spring, the crappie will move to the deeper waters and around underwater stumps. During the summer, you will find crappies in the deep waters by the deadwood in Lake Marion and by the underwater brush located by Moultire. You can use medium sized minnows for summer fishing. Fall months will find the crappies back in the shallows near the dead trees and brush. Use minnows and jig by the drop offs. During the winter months the crappie are in the deep waters in schools. You can fish with medium sized minnows to catch the crappies. When you fish the Santee Cooper for crappie, you still have to listen to the bait shops and find out where the best places are because it does change from day to day. The bait however does not change. Most of the locals swear by the minnow for fishing crappies any time of the year. You will find some good fishing in the lakes and crappies are not the only thing you can fish for here.
