What’s the best strategy for catching crappie in Grand Lake, St. Mary’s?

At Grand Lake, St. Mary’s in Ohio, you can use a few different ways to catch crappies. The water is only about seven feet deep and the bottom is mostly silt. Therefore, you are going to have to drift the lake rather than troll. The lake is about nine miles long and about three miles wide, but there are some great places to fish. The gizzard shad is what keeps the crappies in the lake. The best place to fish is by the shorelines near the boat docks, fallen trees and the brush. Use minnows or smaller plastic baits to fish these areas. You can also fish this way around the south shoreline by the channels and tributaries. During the winter, you can do some ice fishing for crappies in these same areas. The locals have a great fishing season when they do winter and spring crappie fishing. The important thing to remember is that crappie fishing bait can be the same in most areas, but the location is what makes the difference between catching the fish and not. If you are fishing the shorelines, you can do this without a boat, but most areas make be a bit rocky. It is wise to use your waiters and position yourself somewhere that will not interfere with the catch and the netting of the crappies. You will definitively have some good fishing at Grand Lake. The crappie fishing is good and so is the walleye fishing as well as the perch and bluegill.
