Where and when is the bets time to go fishing for Crappie in Sandusky Bay.

Where and when is the bets time to go fishing for Crappie in Sandusky Bay. There is a group of us that want to take a crappie fishing trip to Sandusky Bay and have never really fished Lake Erie except for smallies and Wallie. Here around Cincy when the dog woods are blooming means the Crappie are usually on fire, does this stand true for Lake Erie? April, May I understand this somewhat depends on the weather. Minnows, Jigs, Dipping, Trolling I have fished many lakes in the south for Crappie with pretty good results, but I am a Ohio resident and have always liked the Lake Erie, we will be fishing out of 18′ john boats that we have duck hunted lake Erie I must say with great results. Any information you could give me would be greatly appreciated by all the guys who are looking forward to getting away for a few days and catching some slab Crappies. Is port clinton a better place to fish for Crappie? I would greatly appreciate your repkly. Thanks, and great fishing. Shane Hall

The area of Sandusky Bay is an important area in terms of fishing on Lake Erie, and I think you will have a good experience while fishing for crappie in the Sandusky bay area of Lake Erie. During the early spring, just when the dogwoods start to bloom, as you suggested, is a great time to fish for crappie in the bay. The bay tends to be a little more shallow than some of the other bodies of water, and as a result it warms more quickly, and you can usually see a huge amount of action pulling crappie in during these times, and most often a little earlier than most of the other areas. One draw back to the shallow water is the problems that causes when you are boating, so be careful out there, and for best success, take out boats that ride high in the water. There is some great fishing in Port Clinton, make no mistake about it, but when you consider that the crappie in Sandusky tend to be both bigger and more plentiful than almost anywhere else, it is just not possible to state that Port Clinton would be a better place to fish. There are those who would argue it is just as good, but most would not say it is better. It is out of the ordinary to see crappie smaller than ten inches and most often they range from fifteen to seventeen inches long. These big pan fish, when coupled with the huge numbers of crappie present, make Sandusky one of the most popular areas for crappie fishing. In fact, locals often boast that you can catch more crappie in a single fishing trip than you can all year long anywhere else in the state.
