Where do crappie live? How can I find and catch them?
Crappies live in many waters in the United States. They tend to stay around weed beds, rock beds and dead wood in the water along the shorelines. Finding crappies means knowing the water you are fishing and where the hiding spots are and when the crappies are moving. How you catch the crappie will depend on what you want to use. For crappies, you can use smaller minnows, night crawlers and lures. If you fish during or after the spawn, you will fish differently than what you fish in summer or fall months. If you are going to fish post spawn, you want to position yourself by the areas where the fish will exit the spawning grounds. Mouths of river and channels will be ideal. If you can find the spawning grounds, you could start fishing with insects and night crawlers just down from where the fish spawn to catch them when they have finished. Drifting or trolling are some ways to catch crappies. If you fish from shore, you can still cast upstream in a river and allow the bait to flow downstream with the current into the fish swimming upstream. The crappies are an easy fish to fish for as long as you know where to get started on the water. Stick close to shore in about 8 to 10 feet of water during the early mornings and late evenings. You will have to get a map of the water, which can be your starting point and then move around so that you cover more area and get some bites.
